Somi Soroush is a PhD student in the Media Studies department at CU Boulder, with a background in art, animation, and storytelling. She holds an MFA from the University of Idaho, where she first got curious about how images stay with us long after we’ve seen them.

Somi’s research explores memory, identity, and the feeling of being far from home. She is interested in how media and visual culture help people make sense of displacement, belonging, and the stories they tell about themselves.

These interests also shape her animation practice. Through short animated works, she explores many of the same questions found in her research, translating them into playful, visual stories. Her animations become a space where personal memories, emotions, and imagined worlds come together to examine what it means to find one’s place in the world.
